Everything is energy. Everything is vibrating. Everything in life is energy expressing itself by vibrating at different frequencies. The way in which we experience the world is simply how our bodies interpret these waves of energy. Sound waves enter the ear and are interpreted by the brain as sound. Light waves enter the eye and are interpreted by the brain as light. The electric energy of the heart can be measured by an EKG. Physics states that anything that has an electric charge creates a magnetic field. The HeartMath Institute has proven that “the heart is the most powerful source of electromagnetic energy in the human body, producing the largest rhythmic electromagnetic field of any of the body’s organs. The heart’s electrical field is about 60 times greater in amplitude than the electrical activity generated by the brain.” Our physical and emotional bodies are in a constant flow of energy circulating through our body, receiving energy from the outside world, and sending it back out into the world.
Energy flowing through your body is like water flowing through a river. When the energy is flowing freely and unencumbered, we are in a state of wellbeing. Physical injury, disease, stress, and emotional trauma can block the natural flow of energy in our body, much like a dam can block the flow of water in a river. The vibrational energy of sound is an excellent modality to unblock energy and restore it to its healthy flow. Sound vibrations travel through water very efficiently. The human body is approximately 70% water. Sound is able to penetrate and move through the body to where it is needed. Hearing sounds triggers responses in the brain that alter our emotions and moods as well as blood pressure and heart rate. Sound traveling through the ears affects the Vagus nerve which is connected to the parasympathetic nervous system, activating the healing systems of the body.
The energy of sound and vibration can be delivered by many types of sound healing instruments. Tuning forks, crystal bowls, Tibetan bowls, gongs, chimes and the voice are all excellent tools for sound healing. Tuning forks and Tibetan bowls can be put directly on the body to transmit healing vibrations. And all of the above mentioned instruments can produce healing sounds that can unblock and restore the healthy flow of energy to the body. Specific frequencies can also be used to help bring the body and mind back to its optimal state of resonance. Sound and vibration can be used on the acupuncture meridian points, on each of the Chakras, and in the energy field around the body. Sound healing can be used in conjunction with acupuncture, reflexology, massage, talk therapy and other healing modalities.
